Called Out

I have a big mouth. I am often say things out loud without thinking. A good example of this is two Sundays ago there was a pretty tall girl in front of me that had a peacock thing in her hair. At one point said "I can't see there is a peacock in front of me." Celeste wasn't too pleased. I then tried to cover myself... but I just gave up. It isn't worth it to try to redeem myself.

Today for the devotional the BYU Men's Chorus sang. I have never liked them. I have friends in the chorus. They sing great. The only thing I don't like is that they wear crested jackets. I don't even know why I don't like crested jackets, I just never have. When the started signing I told my friends that I hated them, for no good reason, but I did. The guy in front of me said "Can you keep your opinions to yourself I used to be in men's chorus." I felt pretty stupid. Celeste rolled her eyes at me. Luckily I am not a big jerk that gets offended for being offensive. I took the rest of their singing to try and appreciate them rather than hating for no reason.  The crests were kind of cool to see in rows of the singers, except when a short guy was behind a tall one, or a row was askew.

After the singing the guy apologized for calling me out. I just said thank you for doing it. I am thankful he did. More people should call me out for being rude when I am.

  1. Haha oh Jamsheed...I must tell you a story. A chorus guy walked by me today and as I saw the golden crest on his jacket I thought, "What a weirdo. Is he trying to be Harry Potter or something?" Later on another guy passed me and then it hit me...it's the men's chorus! Haha! :)

  2. dude, i do similarly all the time. i always say the first thing that comes to my head. i am without a stupid filter. (see my post http://ronhic.blogspot.com/2011/10/bmsf.html). it is good when people call me out on it, because i often think if something is funny then it can't be rude. after all, if it is just a joke, no one should be offended. but that isn't always a good way of looking at things, because it isn't always funny to the next guy.
